Making your own tank foods

I like to make my own foods for my tanks. Here is my little recipe, which tends to vary with what is available at the LGS (Local Grocery Store). I call this....

SaltReef Wonder-Slurry!

First, a bowl with several cups of tank water. I've thought about using RO/DI water for this, but I figure that the food fish eat don't come out of RO/DI water, so why use it?

And empty bowl to receive our wonder slurry.

The mini Cuisinart.

Don't do this with your spouse around :)

Here is the buffet...Dispayed for your pleasure.

A closer look. Here we see ESV spray-dried marine phytoplankton, Selcon concentrate, Squid, Mullet and a pile of small shrimp.

I cut up the mullet, and discard the heads (probably shouldn't) but I'm trying not to over work the Cuisinart with fish skulls.

To the Cuisinart, I add some tank water (about 2/3 cup), one teaspoon of Phytoplankton and 4 dropper squirts of Selcon.

Then we add some of our sweet meats. Gee, I'm starting to feel like Emeril Lagasse.

BAM!

This stuff looks very yummy! Would probably make a good Sushi sauce!

In the big empty bowl, I added a bit more water to get a consistency that would pour easily from the vials I use. Don't let your spouse seeing you use one of the kitchen implements here either!

As a side note, the food I'm making is for the general feeding of medium to small sized fish and the tank in general. This is shot of what I use for the lion and grouper. Basically the same, just no Phyto and not ground up.

I then fill a big syringe with the slurry.

I fill little vials with the slurry from the syringe. I use one or two of them to feed all the tanks depending as I like to vary the food levels.
This size vial takes about 20 minutes to thoroughly thaw.

Here is the set of full vials I filled (I really wish I had a lot more!). This should last me about a week and a half.

Here is the rest, in the freezer. This is probably would fill another 50 vials. I'll get more some day. I do find this to be a great way to feed the tanks. If you have any thoughts on this, just let me know!
