Smart Fry

Fish fry released during the day from outside the boundaries of a reef always swim away into open water. This is thought to be a survival behaviour, with heaps of hungry fish present on the reef. The way the fry determines the direction of the reef is unknown.

by .

Mike Lee is located in East Brighton, Victoria, and is on the way to developing a great 6 foot tank.

Full tank shot.

Tank was established at the end of 2006, so is still a very young system.

Here some photographs that where taken when Mike hosted a Marine Aquarium Society of Victoria meeting in February, 2007.

Equipment

Mike doesn't like prominent equipment within the tank, so avoided using powerheads and used a close loop system.  The outlets are hidden underneath the reef structure and uses Locline so is it fully adjustable.

Closed loop circulation pump and protein skimmer in end of sump.

It also had to be very quite, so a significant amount of time has been spent on minimising noise.

Livestock

Fish include blue tang, yellow tank, six-line wrasse, 5 captive bred clownfish, and a fire goby.  There is a lot of different corals, with the feature being .
