The air flowrate through a Stockman style of standpipe needs to be adjustable to ensure that a siphon does not form. Here is some simple modifications to a PVC cap and piping to enable easy adjustment of the airflow.

Before finally installing the standpipe into the bulkhead fitting, ensure that you can see the holes/slits from the outside of the tank. That will allow easier adjustment of the air flowrate.
