Standpipe, Stockman Style PDF Print

by Ben Bryce

With approximately 10,000 litres per hour over the weir I had to come up with something to stop the gurgling of the 2 x 50 mm drains. I tried using a Durso style standpipe, but the restricted room in the weir killed that idea. I then found the Stockman variant of the design.

I went in search of the components and had little success visiting several plumbing suppliers for a slip reducer. So I decided to make my own variant of the Stockman.

Existing standpipe before modification.

The drains from the weir are 50 mm, so decided to use 80 mm pipe, end caps and build it from scratch. Removed the existing stand pipe of 50 mm and drilled 3 25 mm holes around the top section of the pipe.

Drilling the three holes in the top of the standpipe.

Placed the end caps on the 80 mm pipe and used a hole saw to cut a hole in the end cap so that the 50 mm pipe will fit through. Pushed the 80 mm end cap and pipe piece onto the 50 mm stand pipe with the three holes in it. Then placed the required hole in the 50 mm end cap to stop siphoning occuring and put them back in.

Hole through the 80 mm end cap for the 50 mm standpipe to pass through.

The are working beautifully!

Both standpipes installed and operating in the weir.
