Sump Gurgle Minimiser PDF Print

by Joel Willis.

For those that own Dursos or Stockmans will know they are fantastic from stopping the noise from your overflow but can in turn cause noise issues in your sump from all the air entering the standpipe.

I was having issues with large 'gulps' of air exiting out the overflow every 30 seconds or so! It was driving me nuts! Isn't it funny how noises such as fans etc. dont bother you but water noises, although, quieter, make you kick the cabinet!

My solution is the put a T piece on the line from the tank with part of it above the surface, this allows most (not all) of the air to exit silently above water. The 90 degree bend at the top is to stop any little spits of water becoming airborne.

Elbow at end of tank weir drain to sump to minimise gurgling.

Well, you could actually just look around at the actual diagrams I have on here, just search for the word sump, plenty to look at.

Just curious if and how you are securing the pipe to make sure the 90 degree portion is above the water all the time.

No need as it is all PVC and the friction from the joints is more than sufficient to stop the pipes rotating.
