What are the three knobs/valves on my calcium reactor cylinder? PDF Print

The carbon dioxide cylinder and the regulator attached to it will typically have three knobs/valves to adjust, one on the cylinder itself and two on the regulator.

The one on the CO2 cylinder is to turn the gas on and off. It only needs to be turned off when it is time to disconnect the cylinder to get a refill and turned on when it is reconnected. It is not used to control any flowrates or pressures.

The regulator will typically have two knobs/valves to adjust (in the case of those that are a combined needle valve and regulator). The large knob is to adjust the outlet pressure of the regulator. It is good practice to turn this down to zero before turning off the gas and disconnecting from the cylinder. Then once the regulator is reconnected and the gas on, slowly increase the pressure to its operating level. The second smaller knob is to adjust the gas flowrate and is to fine tune the bubble rate into the calcium reactor.
