Journal

Ramblings on anything and everything to do with OZ REEF, or as it is now know with the new tank being established, NEOZ REEF. As the title suggests, a journal of occurrances with residents within the aquarium, construction and problems with equipment and anything else I feel like rambling along about.

Further down the list, you can get to read some of the old issues of OZ REEF Press, which was a monthly news that I use to publish a number of years ago when had more time for doing things like that.

2007 May - Another Leak! PDF Print

The stupid thing just couldn't wait, could he.  About to set up my new tank in the very near future, but does that mean he shouldn't try to put a new leak in my old tank, nope.

Just leaving work one night early this month, got a phone call from my wife that the power was off in the house, but the lights were working fine.  Told her to turn off the power point to the tank, check the meter box, which was tripped and then turn it back on.  The power stayed on fine with the tank off.  She turned back on the power to the tank and it tripped again.

2006 May: Turbo Snail Population Crash PDF Print

For some time now, probably in the order of 12-18 months, there have been a number of empty Turbo sp. shells showing up on the sand bed.  Didn't really think too much of it, but the number has been increasing significantly recently.  Some time ago I spotted two new snails on the glass that don't appear to be herbivores and spotted them again recently and they had doubled in size.  So, they were eating something and it appears like it was my Turbo sp. who were on the menu.

2006 March: Going Nowhere Fast PDF Print

Planning and construction of the new tank has pretty much zero distance since the last update.  Simply have been flat out at work and home (with construction of filtration equipment for others) trying just to catch up with things.  And it hasn't really been helped that much by the fact been sick a couple of times and other things keep on cropping up that eat into time.  Going to have to really make it a priority now so that I can get things rolling along.  Although, I have still been thinking about things in the back of my mind.

2005 April: Gobiodon okinawae, Yellow Coral Goby, spawning PDF Print

In the last week of March I noticed that one of my Gobiodon okinawae was hanging around very closely to a Pavona minuta colony and not moving anywhere else in the tank as they normally do. Taking a closer look I noticed that the under surface area of one of the branches had some eggs attached to it. They have finally decided to start breeding.

2004 September: Rebirth PDF Print

After the loss of a substantial amount of livestock, predominantly corals and all Acropora spp., due to a temperature spike at the very end of summer, it was time for a total reworking of my reef aquarium.
