Naomi and Neil Creek are located in Burwood, Victoria, and have put
together a fantastic, compact and neat 0.6 metre (2 feet) cube tank.
Full tank shot.
Tank was established approximately 3.5 years ago and now really
takes care of itself with little maintenence. Freshwater top offs
are made every 2 days using just tap water with conditioner
added. Water changes are performed about every 3 to 4 months.
Top section of tank, note coated weir panel by Zoanthid sp.
Equipment
Hood and stand were DIY by Neil.
Lighting consists of a single 250W, 20,000K Radium metal halide.
Protein skimmer is a small Aquatica Australia unit located in the
sump. Circulation in the tank is by a closed loop, with the pump
above and behind the tank, with the inlet at the back of the tank and
the outlets at the front corners. Flow to the two outlets is
controlled via a SQWD.
Inside of hood, with light reflector, closed loop with pump and outlets, plus weir.
Sump, with protein skimmer, heater, return pump, compact fluorescent light and some liverock.
Livestock
Fish include two pajama cardinals, bi-color blenny, 6-line wrasse, damsel and two captive bred clownfish.
Corals include pulsing Xenia sp. (new colony to replace the large and spectacular one lost over the previous summer), three species of Acropora sp., various soft corals, Platygyra sp., Turbinaria sp., and an extensive colony of Zoanthid sp., the cover a significant amount of three sides of the tank glass, including the weir.
A long spined urchin is taking care of what was a significant problem with Caulerpa taxifolia, which was smoothering the tank.
